Initially laid down as the tanker SS Sachem, it was renamed SS Enoree and designated AO-69 on 17 September 1942. Acquired and commissioned by the Navy on 23 January 1943, it underwent conversion before being deployed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eAfter departing Baltimore on 27 January 1943 for conversion, Enoree shuttled fuel between various locations, including Norfolk, Aruba, Port Arthur, and Casablanca. Her heavy-lift capacity allowed for various tasks, such as unloading pontoons and lifting tank landing craft.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eEnoree continued operations until Japan's acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration, with her final convoy departing Okinawa-bound on 14 August 1945.
