USS Lagarto (SS-371)

The Balao-class submarine USS Lagarto (SS-371) departed for the Gulf of Siam and never sent another transmission. Her loss is part of the steep price the submarine force paid in the Pacific. Lost May 3, 1945, depth charged by the Japanese minelayer Hatsutaka in the Gulf of Siam. All 86 crew perished. Her wreck was identified in 2005.
