The United States Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs) hold a significant place in the annals of military history. As the precursors to the modern-day Navy SEALs, these elite units demonstrated unparalleled skill and bravery in conducting underwater reconnaissance and demolition missions. Their legacy continues to inspire and inform the tactics and training of special operations forces today.

Established during World War II, the UDTs were a response to the challenges faced by the U.S. military in conducting amphibious landings. Tasked with the crucial responsibility of clearing obstacles and gathering intelligence, the UDTs played an instrumental role in ensuring the success of many pivotal operations. Notably, the UDTs were involved in key battles such as Normandy, Tarawa, and Iwo Jima, where their expertise in underwater demolition and reconnaissance proved invaluable.

The iconic Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training program owes its roots to the demanding regimen established by the UDTs.
