Unit history
As a Balao-class fleet submarine, USS Lamprey (SS-372) incorporated the lessons learned from the early war patrols into a stronger, more capable boat. The Balao-class kept the proven Gato layout but added a pressure hull rated for greater depth, a quiet improvement that saved lives when depth charges fell close.
The USS Lamprey collection exists because every boat in the fleet carried a crew that deserves to be remembered. Our apparel and memorabilia are designed for the submarine community, military families, and anyone drawn to the authentic history of undersea warfare.
