327th Bombardment Squadron
The 327th Bombardment Squadron carried the fuselage code UX and flew B-17 Flying Fortresses with the 92nd Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force. But between May and August 1943, the 327th flew something else entirely. It became the only squadron in the U.S. Army Air Forces to take the YB-40 escort gunship into combat. The concept was radical, the aircraft was a failure, and the 327th was the only unit that ever proved it.
This collection belongs to the squadron that flew the most unusual B-17 variant of the war.
