U.S. Air Force
Technical Operations
The specialized technical squadrons that maintain and operate the Air Force's most complex ground-based systems. From radar maintenance to precision measurement equipment labs, Tech Ops keeps the infrastructure running.

TOOL CERTIFIED
PMEL labs calibrate and certify the test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment used across the entire Air Force. Every torque wrench, multimeter, pressure gauge, and electronic test set must be periodically calibrated against NIST-traceable standards. PMEL technicians ensure that when a crew chief torques a bolt to spec, the torque wrench is accurate. When an avionics tech measures voltage, the meter is certified. PMEL is the foundation of maintenance quality.

GROUND CTRL APPROACH
Ground radar technicians maintain the airport surveillance radars, precision approach radars, and ground controlled approach systems that air traffic controllers depend on to safely manage aircraft. These radars guide aircraft through weather, bring them onto final approach in zero visibility conditions, and keep the airfield operating when nothing else can. Ground radar maintenance is a small career field with outsized impact. When the radar goes down, the airfield goes down.
