TACTICS REPLICATED
The USAF kill ratio in Vietnam dropped to roughly 2:1. Unacceptable. The Air Force created the Aggressor program in 1972 to fix this. The 64th FWS at Nellis became the first dedicated adversary unit, flying T-38 Talons in Soviet camouflage while employing MiG tactics. The result was Red Flag and a generation of pilots who went to Desert Storm and achieved kill ratios above 30:1.

REPLICATION
Modern Aggressors have evolved beyond Cold War Soviet replication. The 65th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis operates F-35s to replicate advanced fifth-generation threats. The 18th Aggressor Squadron at Eielson provides adversary support for Pacific exercises. Private contractors supplement with Red Air. But the core mission is unchanged. If a potential adversary flies it or shoots it, Aggressors will replicate it so American pilots see it in practice first.
