Bases range from massive complexes like Wright-Patterson AFB with over 27,000 employees to small operating locations supporting a single mission. Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio, is the heart of Air Force research, development, and acquisition. Home to Air Force Materiel Command headquarters, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Kadena Air Base on Okinawa is the largest U.S. air base in the Pacific and the keystone of American deterrence in the Indo-Pacific. The 18th Wing is the largest combat wing in the Air Force. Kadena has hosted fighters, tankers, ISR, and airlift for decades. The base is transitioning from legacy F-15C/D Eagles to F-15EX Eagle IIs, with rotational F-35 and F-22 deployments filling the gap. USAF overseas installations form a global network of power projection. Ramstein AB in Germany hosts USAFE headquarters. RAF Lakenheath in England operates the only overseas F-35 squadrons. Osan AB and Kunsan AB in Korea maintain deterrence on the peninsula. Al Udeid in Qatar is the CENTCOM air hub.
