Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio, is the heart of Air Force research, development, and acquisition. Home to Air Force Materiel Command headquarters, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The base traces its lineage to the Wright Brothers' flying field. Wilbur Wright Field was established in 1917. It has been the center of military aviation technology for over a century.

Kadena Air Base on Okinawa is the largest U.S. air base in the Pacific and the keystone of American deterrence in the Indo-Pacific. The 18th Wing is the largest combat wing in the Air Force. Kadena has hosted fighters, tankers, ISR, and airlift for decades. The base is transitioning from legacy F-15C/D Eagles to F-15EX Eagle IIs, with rotational F-35 and F-22 deployments filling the gap. Kadena sits 400 miles from mainland China.

USAF overseas installations form a global network of power projection. Ramstein AB in Germany hosts USAFE headquarters. RAF Lakenheath in England operates the only overseas F-35 squadrons. Osan AB and Kunsan AB in Korea maintain deterrence on the peninsula. Al Udeid in Qatar is the CENTCOM air hub. Incirlik in Turkey, Aviano in Italy, and Misawa in Japan round out major overseas locations. These bases let the Air Force fight tonight from forward positions.
