3rd Battalion, 1st Marines Merchandise

3rd Battalion, 1st Marines (3/1) is an active duty infantry battalion of the United States Marine Corps. It is headquartered at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California and falls under the jurisdiction of the 1st Marine Regiment, which is part of the 1st Marine Division.

3/1 Marines participated in the following World War II campaigns: Guadalcanal, Eastern New Guinea, New Britain, Peleliu and Okinawa. Beginning in April 1946, they participated in the occupation of North China.

During the Korean War, 3/1 Marines took part in combat operations during the Battle of Inchon. Following the recapture of Seoul, 3/1 Marines, along with the rest of the 1st Marine Division, was put back on ship and sailed around to the east coast of Korea. 3/1 Marines eventually landed at Wonsan in late October and from there participated in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. From January 1966 to May 1971, the battalion fought in the Vietnam War.

3/1 Marines deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield and in 1991, they transitioned to combat operations during Operation Desert Storm. May 1992 brought 3/1 Marines up a short drive Interstate 5 to Los Angeles to aid local police in riot control operations during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. In 1995, 3/1 deployed to Somalia to support Operation United Shield, helping the remaining UN troops evacuate.

3rd Battalion, 1st Marines took part in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, including the Battle of Nasiriyah. In 2004, 3-1 Marines deployed to Fallujah Iraq and took part in Operation Phantom Fury to retake the city. 3/1 Marines would later deploy to Iraq two more times in 2005 and 2007.

Today, 3/1 Marines continues to play a vital role in the Marine Corps, providing highly trained and disciplined infantry forces that are ready to defend the nation at a moment's notice. 3/1 Marines has a reputation for excellence and is known for its professionalism and commitment to the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment.
