The 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines (3/25) holds a significant place in the United States Marine Corps as a reserve infantry battalion. Formed in 1943, its primary service was in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The battalion engaged in major battles at Saipan and Iwo Jima, earning a reputable stance before its deactivation at the end of the war. However, in the 1960s, recognizing the unit's potential and significance, it was reactivated as a reserve battalion. Its current base is in Brook Park, Ohio, and it also has units across Ohio, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. It's casually known as "three deuce five" and comprises around 800 dedicated Marines and Sailors. Their overarching command is the 25th Marine Regiment and the 4th Marine Division.

Diving deeper into its structure, the battalion boasts several key units:

• The Headquarters and Services Company calls Brook Park, OH, its home.
• India Company is located in Johnson City, TN.
• Kilo Company is based in North Versailles, PA.
• Lima Company finds its place in Columbus, OH.
• Finally, the Weapons Company is stationed in Akron, OH.

The battalion's primary mission is to confront and annihilate the enemy using strategic fire and tactical maneuver. Moreover, they are also trained to counter enemy assaults with a combination of fire and close combat. If the nation ever faces an emergency, this battalion stands ready to augment active Marine Forces.

The history of 3/25 is steeped in valor and service. During World War II, the 25th Marine Regiment, of which 3/25 is a part, was brought to life on May 1, 1943. The regiment was heavily involved in the Battles of Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein Atoll, and the renowned Iwo Jima. Their challenge during the Iwo Jima conflict was the capture of Airfield One, and subsequently, they progressed deep into the Japanese fortifications. The regiment's commanding officer during the battle, Colonel Justice M. Chambers, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his unparalleled bravery and leadership. This honor stands commemorated at the H&S in Brook Park, Ohio. However, with the end of World War II in 1945, the regiment was put into a dormant state.

The 1960s saw the reactivation of the 25th Marine Regiment as a Marine Corps Reserve Unit, which has since continued its training to defend the United States. The 3/25 played notable roles during Operation Desert Storm, with deployments in various regions such as Norway, Panama, and Honduras.

The onset of the Global War on Terror marked another crucial phase for the battalion. On January 4, 2005, they were reactivated and soon after were in Iraq. Their mission was twofold: training the Iraqi Security Forces and establishing security to deter insurgent movements in Iraq's Al Anbar province. They actively participated in several operations, such as Matador, New Market, Spear, and Quick Strike, to name a few. Sadly, their time in Iraq also marked the loss of forty-eight of their members. A touching memorial in Brook Park, Ohio, stands in honor of their sacrifice.

3/25 continued its global efforts, deploying to Afghanistan in 2010 to support Operation Enduring Freedom. They took on multiple roles, ranging from reconnaissance to combat operations. The battalion's time in Afghanistan, which lasted till June 2011, saw the loss of a brave Marine, Lance Corporal Aaron M. Swanson, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
