407th Bombardment Squadron

The 407th Bombardment Squadron flew under the fuselage code PY with the 92nd Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force. It was the last of the group's four squadrons to reach England in August 1942, and the only one that began life as something other than a bombardment squadron. Originally constituted as the 17th Reconnaissance Squadron, the 407th was redesignated for the bomber mission in April 1942 and never looked back. It flew B-17 Flying Fortresses over occupied Europe from 1942 to 1945 alongside the 325th, 326th, and 327th.

This collection carries the 407th's record forward.
