5th Battalion, 10th Marines Merchandise

The 5th Battalion 10th Marines, also known as "The Five and Dime" or "The Steel Rain Battalion," was a US artillery battalion with a proud history of service and distinction. The battalion was stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was armed with M777A2 howitzers with a range of 30 km. It provided direct support to the 2nd Marine Division in times of conflict and had the secondary mission of providing civil affairs. The battalion had a rich history, dating back to its activation in 1941 as the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines. The battalion earned two Presidential Unit Citations for its service on Guadalcanal and Tarawa and was later re-designated as the 5th Battalion, 10th Marines.

Throughout its history, the 5/10 has been involved in numerous operations and battles, including the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. During Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the battalion manned 8" and 155mm self-propelled howitzers and provided support to the division. In 2007, the battalion was deployed as a Civil Affairs Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 5/10 has received numerous honors for its service, including the Presidential Unit Citation Streamer with One Bronze Star, the Navy Unit Commendation Streamer with One Bronze Star, and the Southwest Asia Service Streamer with Three Bronze Stars. The battalion was deactivated in 2012, but its legacy and contributions to the US military will always be remembered.
