Special Boat Team 12 (SBT-12)

In October 2002, following adjustments in the NSW structure, Special Boat Team-12 was inaugurated. Nestled within the Coronado Amphibious Base in San Diego, California, this elite unit operates with the advanced MKV SOC and SOC RHIB combatant craft. Geographically, their strategic deployments span North East Asia, South East Asia, and the Middle East.

The origins of the Special Boat Team trace back to 1964, when it was known as Boat Support Unit ONE. By 1971, it evolved into the Coastal River Division-12 and, subsequently in 1978, was renamed Special Boat Unit-12. Throughout its venerable history, the Team has showcased exemplary service in nearly every American conflict since the Vietnam War. In 2003, SBT-12 played a pivotal role in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and remains a key force in the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.

One of the primary tasks of Special Boat Team 12 is piloting Special Operations Craft. These crafts, including Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats, are the heartbeat of naval incursions in varied terrains. Their agile and high-speed capabilities make them indispensable in amphibious operations, especially in regions like the Middle East, South East Asia, and North East Asia.

The Special Boat Team also specializes in Counterterrorism Operations. Candidates aiming to join the Special Boat Team 12 undergo rigorous training. Upon successful completion, they're awarded the coveted SWCC Warfare Insignia. Their training grooms them for a diverse set of roles including Special Warfare Boat Operations and ensures they are ready for any challenge, anywhere.
