U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV)

U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was the command of the United States military forces in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The command was responsible for advising and assisting the South Vietnamese government and military, and for conducting combat operations against the Viet-Cong and the North Vietnamese Army. MACV was headquartered at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon, and it was commanded by a four-star general. The command was disbanded in 1973, at the end of the Vietnam War.
