Unit history
USS Aspro (SSN-648) was a Sturgeon-class nuclear attack submarine, built for the demanding mission of finding and tracking Soviet ballistic missile submarines in the deep ocean. The Sturgeon design improved on the Permit-class with better quieting, enhanced sonar, and the ability to conduct sustained under-ice operations in the Arctic, where Soviet SSBNs increasingly operated.
For the crews who served aboard USS Aspro and the families who kept the home fires burning through long and silent deployments, this collection carries real meaning. Built by veterans for the submarine community.
