Unit history
Carrying a Balao-class hull number, USS Billfish (SS-286) was built with the improved high-tensile steel pressure hull that distinguished the Balao design from its Gato-class predecessors. This allowed deeper operating depth, giving her crew a better chance of survival when Japanese escorts closed in with depth charges.
Our Billfish merchandise honors the crew who served aboard this submarine. Designed for submarine veterans, military history collectors, and the families who share in the legacy of undersea service, each item reflects the authentic spirit of the Silent Service.
