USS Bowfin (SS-287)

USS Bowfin (SS-287) is one of those boats whose name every submariner knows. Nicknamed the 'Pearl Harbor Avenger' because she was launched on December 7, 1942, exactly one year after the Japanese attack, USS Bowfin completed nine war patrols. She is preserved as a museum ship adjacent to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Today, USS Bowfin is preserved as a museum ship where visitors can walk her decks and feel the confined spaces where her crew lived and fought.
