The wartime service of USS Cavalla (SS-244) reads like a textbook example of effective submarine warfare. On her maiden war patrol, USS Cavalla sank the Japanese aircraft carrier Shokaku on June 19, 1944 during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Shokaku was a veteran of the Pearl Harbor attack. Cavalla is preserved as a museum ship at Seawolf Park in Galveston, Texas.
USS Cavalla survives today as a museum ship, one of the few places where anyone can experience the cramped reality of wartime submarine life. Our merchandise collection is designed for the veterans, families, and visitors who want to carry that experience with them.
