USS Chanticleer (ASR-7) was the lead ship of the Chanticleer-class submarine rescue vessels, commissioned in 1943. Equipped with the McCann Rescue Chamber — first used to save 33 men from USS Squalus in 1939 — she stood ready to rescue crews of sunken submarines throughout WWII and the early Cold War.
