Among the Gato-class submarines that fought in the Pacific, USS Cobia (SS-245) stands out for the quality and impact of her war record. USS Cobia completed six war patrols in the Pacific and is preserved at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, where many fleet submarines were built during the war. She serves as a memorial to the Manitowoc shipyard workers who built 28 submarines for the war effort.
USS Cobia survives today as a museum ship, one of the few places where anyone can experience the cramped reality of wartime submarine life. Our merchandise collection is designed for the veterans, families, and visitors who want to carry that experience with them.
