USS Cochino (SS-345)

Every submarine that leaves port accepts the possibility of not returning. For USS Cochino (SS-345), a Balao-class boat operating in the Arctic/Norwegian Sea, that possibility became reality. Lost August 26, 1949, after a battery explosion and fire during a Cold War intelligence-gathering patrol off Norway. One Cochino sailor died. Six sailors from the rescuing submarine USS Tusk perished attempting to save Cochino's crew in heavy Arctic seas. This collection carries the name of USS Cochino forward. Her crew made the ultimate sacrifice, and every piece of merchandise here is designed to keep that memory alive for submarine veterans, families, and historians.
