USS Diablo (SS-479) was a Tench-class fleet submarine, the most advanced conventional submarine design in the American inventory at the end of World War II. The Tench-class incorporated every improvement learned from three years of combat operations, producing a boat that many submariners considered the finest diesel-electric submarine ever built.
