USS Diver (ARS-5) was commissioned in 1943 as the lead ship of the Diver-class rescue and salvage vessels. Armed with deep-sea diving equipment, heavy towing gear, and firefighting systems, she performed salvage operations across the Pacific Theater - recovering sunken vessels, clearing wrecked harbors, and towing battle-damaged warships to safety at forward repair bases.
