Unit history
Carrying a Balao-class hull number, USS Eel (SS-354) was built with the improved high-tensile steel pressure hull that distinguished the Balao design from its Gato-class predecessors. This allowed deeper operating depth, giving her crew a better chance of survival when Japanese escorts closed in with depth charges.
Our USS Eel merchandise is part of a larger commitment to preserving the heritage of every boat in the American submarine fleet. Designed for veterans, active duty submariners, and military families, every item in this collection serves the memory of those who served beneath the waves.
