World War II: Throughout World War II, USS Elokomin (AO-55) played a crucial role in transporting fuel products to various locations including Gulf ports, Norfolk, Virginia, New York City, Argentia, Newfoundland, Bermuda, Oran, Algeria, and Casablanca. In the latter stages of the war, she served as a station tanker at Bermuda.
Post-War Service: After the war, USS Elokomin (AO-55) remained active, conducting operations mainly along the U.S. east coast and participating in fleet exercises. She was also involved in U.S. 6th Fleet tours in the Mediterranean and NATO exercises in European waters until 1962.
Decommissioning and Fate: The dates of her decommissioning and removal from the Naval Vessel Register are not specified, but she was eventually transferred to the National Defense Reserve Fleet for layup. USS Elokomin (AO-55) was scrapped in 1970.
