Among the Gato-class submarines that fought in the Pacific, USS Flasher (SS-249) stands out for the quality and impact of her war record. USS Flasher holds the distinction of sinking the most enemy tonnage of any U.S. submarine in World War II by some accounting methods, with over 100,000 tons of confirmed sinkings across her six war patrols.
