USS Flying Fish (SS-229) was a Gato-class fleet submarine, part of the class that formed the backbone of America's undersea campaign in the Pacific. Gato-class boats were the first mass-produced fleet submarines capable of extended patrols across the vast distances of the Pacific theater. With a crew of approximately 80 men, these boats operated in conditions of extreme confinement, oppressive heat, and constant danger, conducting war patrols that could last two months or more.
For the crew who served aboard USS Flying Fish and the families who kept the home fires burning, this collection is built with respect and accuracy. Our submarine merchandise connects past and present through gear that carries real meaning.
