Unit history
Built as a Tambor-class fleet submarine, USS Gar (SS-206) was part of the pre-war submarine force that was immediately thrown into combat operations following Pearl Harbor. The Tambor-class boats were among the most capable American submarines at the start of the war, though they faced the same torpedo reliability problems that frustrated the entire force.
Our Gar gear speaks to anyone who understands submarine culture and the history behind every hull number in the fleet. This collection is designed for submarine veterans, their families, and serious military collectors.
