USS Growler (SS-215)

USS Growler (SS-215) was a Gato-class submarine whose service ended the way too many boats' stories did during the Pacific war. Lost around November 8, 1944, cause unknown in the South China Sea. All 85 crew perished. CDR Howard Gilmore had earlier received the Medal of Honor posthumously for ordering 'Take her down' while wounded on the bridge, sacrificing himself to save the boat.
