Unit history
As a Sturgeon-class nuclear submarine, USS Gurnard (SSN-662) served during the period when the undersea competition between the United States and the Soviet Union was at its most intense. Sturgeon-class boats were optimized for anti-submarine warfare, with advanced sonar systems and the quiet operating characteristics needed to detect and track Soviet submarines without being detected themselves.
Our USS Gurnard merchandise is part of a commitment to honoring every hull number in the nuclear submarine fleet. Designed for the submariners who served, the families who supported them, and collectors who value authentic military heritage.
