USS Kennebago (AO-81)
USS Kennebago (AO-81), an Escambia-class replenishment oiler, was built at Marinship, California, and served the U.S. Navy during World War II. Commissioned on 4 December 1943, she made fueling runs in various locations, including the Aleutians, Marshalls, Marianas, and Philippine Sea. She supported the U.S. 5th Fleet, Fast Carrier Task Force, and landing operations in Lingayen Gulf.
After brief overhauls, she resumed refueling operations, including support for the U.S. 7th Fleet in China. She returned to the U.S. and sailed to Boston, arriving on 19 April 1946.
Transferred to the Maritime Commission in 1947, she was reacquired by the Navy in 1949 for the Military Sea Transportation Service and served during the Korean War and early Cold War. She was briefly released in 1957, then reacquired in 1958 for Pacific logistics supply, serving the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean in 1959.
Kennebago served her final mission for the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1971 as a floating power station near Nha Trang, alongside Tamalpais (AO-96).
