Unit history
Built to the Gato-class standard, USS Lapon (SS-260) was one of the workhorses of the Pacific submarine war. The Gato design combined range, reliability, and firepower in a hull that could operate thousands of miles from base, striking at Japan's merchant fleet and naval forces across the breadth of the ocean.
The Lapon collection brings this submarine's service record to life through apparel and memorabilia built for submarine veterans, active duty crews, and military families. Every item is a connection to the real history of American undersea warfare.
