USS Ling (SS-297)

USS Ling (SS-297) was a Balao-class submarine that proved what aggressive, well-led boats could accomplish in the Pacific campaign. USS Ling completed two war patrols and later served as a training vessel. She is preserved at the New Jersey Naval Museum in Hackensack, though her condition has been the subject of preservation concerns. USS Ling survives today as a museum ship, one of the few places where anyone can experience the cramped reality of wartime submarine life.
