Unit history
USS Permit (SS-178) was a P-class submarine, part of the interwar generation of American boats that were among the first to face combat against Japan. The P-class represented an important evolutionary step in submarine design, bridging the gap between the experimental boats of the 1920s and the fleet submarines that would win the Pacific war.
Our USS Permit collection is designed for the submariners who served aboard her and the families who waited for them. Each piece of merchandise carries the authentic heritage of a fleet boat that contributed to one of the most effective naval campaigns in history.
