Unit history
As a Sturgeon-class nuclear submarine, USS Ray (SSN-653) served during the period when the undersea competition between the United States and the Soviet Union was at its most intense. Sturgeon-class boats were optimized for anti-submarine warfare, with advanced sonar systems and the quiet operating characteristics needed to detect and track Soviet submarines without being detected themselves.
The USS Ray collection is built for submariners who know what a hull number represents. For veterans, active duty crews, and military families, this merchandise connects past service with present pride.
