USS Sculpin (SS-191) is among the 52 American submarines lost during World War II. Her Sargo-class hull carried a crew into the Central Pacific where they fought and were lost. Lost November 19, 1943, depth charged north of Truk. Her captain, CDR Fred Connaway, chose to surface and fight. Forty-two survivors were captured. Twenty-one of those POWs later died when the escort carrier Chuyo, transporting them to Japan, was torpedoed by USS Sailfish, Sculpin's former sister ship Squalus.
Our USS Sculpin collection exists to ensure her crew is not forgotten. Each item is a tribute to the submariners who climbed down the hatch knowing they might not climb back out. Built for submarine veterans, their families, and everyone who honors their sacrifice.
