USS Shark (SS-314) never came home. This Balao-class submarine sailed into the Luzon Strait and gave everything in the fight against Japan. Lost October 24, 1944, depth charged in Luzon Strait. All 87 crew perished. She was attacking a Japanese convoy carrying Allied POWs at the time.
