Unit history
As a Balao-class fleet submarine, USS Skate (SS-305) incorporated the lessons learned from the early war patrols into a stronger, more capable boat. The Balao-class kept the proven Gato layout but added a pressure hull rated for greater depth, a quiet improvement that saved lives when depth charges fell close.
The Skate collection brings this submarine's service record to life through apparel and memorabilia built for submarine veterans, active duty crews, and military families. Every item is a connection to the real history of American undersea warfare.
