USS Skate (SSN-578)
"Semper Fortis"
USS Skate (SSN-578) holds a distinguished place in American submarine history. Skate was the lead ship of the first class of production nuclear submarines. On March 17, 1959, she became the first submarine to surface at the North Pole, breaking through the Arctic ice. Skate conducted multiple under-ice operations that proved nuclear submarines could operate year-round in Arctic waters, a capability with profound Cold War strategic implications.
Our USS Skate collection is designed for the sailors who served aboard her and the families who supported them through deployments they often couldn't discuss. Every item carries the authentic heritage of a nuclear submarine and the crew who took her to sea.
