The Sargo-class submarine USS Squalus (SS-192) departed for the Pre-war and never sent another transmission. Her loss is part of the steep price the submarine force paid in the Pacific. Sank during a test dive on May 23, 1939 off the Isle of Shoals when an engine induction valve failed. Twenty-six crew died. In a landmark rescue, 33 survivors were saved using the McCann Rescue Chamber. She was salvaged, repaired, and recommissioned as USS Sailfish.
Our Squalus gear honors a boat and crew who paid the highest price. Designed for submarine veterans and military families, every item in this collection carries the weight of real history.
