USS Sterlet (SS-392)

Carrying a Balao-class hull number, USS Sterlet (SS-392) was built with the improved high-tensile steel pressure hull that distinguished the Balao design from its Gato-class predecessors. This allowed deeper operating depth, giving her crew a better chance of survival when Japanese escorts closed in with depth charges.
