Every submarine that leaves port accepts the possibility of not returning. For USS Tang (SS-306), a Balao-class boat operating in the Western Pacific, that possibility became reality. Lost October 24, 1944, struck by her own circular-running torpedo during a night surface attack in Formosa Strait. CDR Richard O'Kane and 8 others survived as POWs. O'Kane received the Medal of Honor. Tang was the top-scoring U.S. submarine by confirmed tonnage.
This collection carries the name of USS Tang forward. Her crew made the ultimate sacrifice, and every piece of merchandise here is designed to keep that memory alive for submarine veterans, families, and historians.
