Unit history
As a Balao-class fleet submarine, USS Threadfin (SS-410) incorporated the lessons learned from the early war patrols into a stronger, more capable boat. The Balao-class kept the proven Gato layout but added a pressure hull rated for greater depth, a quiet improvement that saved lives when depth charges fell close.
Our USS Threadfin merchandise is part of a larger commitment to preserving the heritage of every boat in the American submarine fleet. Designed for veterans, active duty submariners, and military families, every item in this collection serves the memory of those who served beneath the waves.
