Unit history
USS Tinosa (SSN-606) holds a distinguished place in American submarine history. The nuclear Tinosa carried a name earned in the Pacific war. Her WWII predecessor (SS-283) famously fired 15 torpedoes at the stationary tanker Tonan Maru No. 3, with only two detonating — providing definitive evidence of the Mark 14 torpedo's defective magnetic exploder.
For the crews who served aboard USS Tinosa and the families who kept the home fires burning through long and silent deployments, this collection carries real meaning. Built by veterans for the submarine community.
