Unit history
USS Tirante (SS-420) was a Tench-class submarine that proved what aggressive, well-led boats could accomplish in the Pacific campaign. CDR George Street received the Medal of Honor for taking Tirante into the heavily mined and defended harbor at Quelpart Island on April 14, 1945, sinking a Japanese transport at near-suicidal range and escaping through mine-infested shallow water.
We built the USS Tirante collection for submariners and their families. Every piece reflects the operational excellence and crew dedication that defined this boat's service.
