USS Trepang (SSN-674)

USS Trepang (SSN-674) represents a milestone in the evolution of American undersea warfare. Trepang was a Sturgeon-class submarine that conducted multiple deployments under Arctic ice. The Sturgeon-class boats' ability to operate in polar waters was a critical Cold War capability, allowing the Navy to maintain surveillance in waters the Soviet Northern Fleet used for ballistic missile submarine operations.
