Battle Damage Repair Ships (ARB)

Lead ship of the ARB class, converted from LST-389 at Bethlehem Steel, Baltimore. Repaired battle-damaged vessels across the Pacific from Manus to Okinawa. Named for the Greek beekeeper god who taught mortals the art of healing - fitting for a ship that mended broken hulls under fire.

Named for the Titan god of the great river encircling the earth. Converted from LST-390 and served across the Western Pacific, providing emergency hull and machinery repairs to damaged fleet units at forward anchorages from New Guinea to the Philippines.

Named for the mythological ferryman of Lesbos. Converted from LST-344, she repaired battle-damaged ships at Ulithi, Leyte Gulf, and Okinawa. At Okinawa, her repair crews worked around the clock patching kamikaze damage on destroyers and escort vessels.

Named for the king of the Olympian gods. Converted from LST-132 and deployed to the Western Pacific, providing battle damage repair services at forward bases. Equipped with machine shops, welding gear, and salvage equipment to keep the fleet fighting.

Named for the legendary king with the golden touch. Converted from LST-527, she served in the Pacific repairing damaged vessels at forward anchorages. Her skilled repair crews could patch hull breaches, reweld fractured frames, and restore propulsion systems under combat conditions.

Named for the wise king of Pylos from the Iliad. Converted from LST-529, Nestor provided critical repair services in the Western Pacific. Like her mythological namesake known for sage counsel, she kept damaged ships seaworthy when returning stateside wasn't an option.

Named for the Lycian prince and son of Zeus slain at Troy. Converted from LST-956, she deployed to the Pacific in the final year of the war. Provided hull and machinery repair to fleet units at forward anchorages throughout the Western Pacific.

Named for the Argonaut king of Salamis and father of Ajax. Converted from LST-957, she commissioned late in the war and served in occupation duty. One of the last ARBs completed, arriving in theater as hostilities wound down.

Named for the Roman name of Odysseus, the great wanderer. Converted from LST-960, she served in the Pacific providing mobile repair capability to the fleet. Her crews restored damaged vessels to fighting trim at anchorages from the Admiralties to Okinawa.

Named for the Greek goddess of harvest and fertility. Converted from LST-967, she arrived in the Pacific near the end of hostilities and served during the occupation period. Decommissioned shortly after the war ended.

Named for the Greek hero who wounded both Ares and Aphrodite at Troy. Converted from LST-968, she commissioned in 1945 and served briefly in the Pacific before the war's end. Participated in occupation duty before decommissioning.

Named for the Titan god who drove the sun chariot across the sky. Converted from LST-1127, she was one of the final ARBs completed. Arrived in the Pacific after hostilities ceased and served briefly during occupation operations before being placed in reserve.

Never received a mythological name - known only by her hull number. Converted from LST-1098, she was the last of the thirteen ARBs. Commissioned near the war's end, she saw limited service before decommissioning.
