Landing Craft Repair Ships (ARL)

Early Conversions (1943–1944) ARL-1 to ARL-24 · First wave LST conversions
The first Landing Craft Repair Ships were converted from LST hulls beginning in 1943. Equipped with machine shops, foundries, and repair facilities, they provided mobile repair capability for landing craft damaged during amphibious assaults across the Pacific and European theaters.
Late Conversions (1944–1945) ARL-26 to ARL-41 · Second wave and Vietnam-era service
The second wave of ARL conversions included ships that saw service not only in World War II but also in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Several were reactivated for riverine warfare in the Mekong Delta, providing repair support to brown-water navy patrol craft.
