1934–1959
Seven heavy cruisers, the last American design built within Washington Treaty limits . and the most battle-tested. Three were sunk at Savo Island in a single catastrophic night. The survivors fought their way through the entire Pacific war, earning 64 collective battle stars.

Lost her bow at Tassafaronga when a torpedo detonated below the waterline. Dead crewmen were packed into the forward section to slow flooding. She made it out of combat and came back fighting. 17 battle stars.

Spent most of the war in the Atlantic . North Africa, Normandy, Southern France. Shelled the D-Day beaches. The only New Orleans-class cruiser to survive WWII without being severely damaged.

The most decorated surface combatant of WWII. Absorbed 45 hits at the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on November 13, 1942 . losing Rear Admiral Daniel Callaghan and Captain Cassin Young on her bridge, both awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. She stayed in the fight. 17 battle stars.

Sunk at the Battle of Savo Island, August 9, 1942. Her captain was killed on the bridge as Japanese cruisers poured in rounds at close range in the dark. She fought until she could fight no longer.
