Ships Built
1975–2009
Commissioned
First post-war submarine design built by the United States Navy. Incorporating German Type XXI technology with an emphasis on submerged speed and endurance, the Tang-class boats were faster, quieter, and deeper-diving than any previous American submarine — test depth 700 feet. All six boats served through the Cold War before transfer to allied navies.
